| How to Keep Your Mobile Number |
|

How to Transfer your Existing Mobile Phone Number.
In Most Cases its possible to transfer your existing number as long as you are changing over to a different network.
It doesn't matter whether you are currently on Pay as you Go, an upfront package or a contract package.Providing you are outside your contractual obligations to your existing Network or Service provider then you can request from them a "Porting Authorisation Code" or "PAC" Number from the Customer Services dept of your current Network/Service Provider. A PAC Number is 3 letters and 6 numbers.
There is generally no charge made by the new Network/Service Provider you are transferring your existing number too. However there may be an admin charge from your current Network/Service Provider.
IMPORTANT - its unwise to cancel your existing contract as disconnected numbers cannot then be transferred. By providing your PAC number to your new chosen network this will initiate the cancellation process with your current Network/Service Provider.
Transferring your number to T-Mobile
This is the easiest network to transfer your number to. Your new mobile is issued on a new temporary number with T Mobile.
You should recieve a Porting Instruction Leaflet. This details how you need to contact T Mobile quoting your new temporary number and providing them with your existing phone number you wish to transfer and your PAC number.
Your existing number will then be transferred within approx 5 to 7 days. Your temporary number will continue to work on your new handset after your existing number has been successfully transferred.
Transferring your number to Orange
When you order your new Orange mobile you generally need to provide the Phone Retailer with your existing number and the PAC code that you have obtained from your existing network.
You are then connected on your New Orange Phone on a new number. The Retailer should provide Orange at the point of connection your existing mobile number and PAC number.
Orange will then manage the porting process and your existing number will work on your new Orange mobile in approx 5 to 7 days.
Transferring your number to Vodafone or O2
Transferring your number to Vodafone or O2 means a delay of 7 to 10 days before you receive your new mobile as there is not a temporary number provided.
When you order your new mobile on Vodafone or O2 you will need to provide your retailer with your existing number and the PAC code that you have obtained from your existing network.
Your retailer then provides your PAC number and existing phone number to Vodafone or O2 who start the Porting procedure.
IMPORTANT - Please be aware that because your Phone Number has to be released from your current network before it can be re-connected to your new network you may be without service for up to 1 day. Additional services such as voicemail and text messaging may also take up to 2 days to be enabled once your number has been transferred.
Transferring your number to 3
Transferring your number to 3 is a very simply process. You are supplied with your New Mobile on a New 3 Number.
Your Retailer should provide you with a Transferring your number to 3 Instruction leaflet. This details how you need to contact 3 quoting your New number, providing them with your existing Phone Number you wish to transfer and your PAC number. Your existing number will then be transferred within approx 7 to 14 days.
Once the transfer has taken place both your original existing number and the new mobile number supplied with the phone will work on your new mobile.
To receive Video calls you will need to provide your new 3 number to people wishing to call you as Video Calling will not work via your old number.

As can be seen Nokia is really leading the market by constantly adding new phones to its product range and this has helped Nokia in what is a flat market sector.
Nokia said both its sales and profits for the fourth quarter of 2003 would be "significantly higher" than it had previously estimated.
Thanks to strong demand the firm said mobile phone sales had increased by 4% to 7bn euros, $8.9bn, £4.9bn.
Analysts had expected sales to be flat or only slightly higher.
